Have you ever seen that commercial when someone does a good deed and it’s witnessed by a random person and they in turn help another stranger and so on and so on? Well that happened to my son the other day. We were out getting something to eat for dinner and he happened to see a very old man standing outside of the restaurant, asking people for any money they could spare. It was then my son asked me if he could give the man some money. I immediately said no having been accustomed to seeing people ask for money all the time. But even after we ordered and sat down with our food, my son asked again presenting his perception on how the man could be hungry. So I caved, remembering how my aunt once told me “that it was up to God and that person what they did with the money..,” and gave him permission with the understanding that he would be giving away his allowance that he’d earned for the day away to the older gentleman. After thinking about it for a few minutes, he decided that it was worth it. So, on the way back to our car, my amazing son gave the man his day’s allowance. What made the moment even more special was after he ran back to me, two male teenagers got back out of their vehicle and gave the man some money as well. I remember them well because they were very polite and ordering food alongside us when my son and I were discussing the issue of giving away his money. In that moment, I felt immense pride in my chest as a parent because now I know that I’m doing something right and that everything is going to be, OK.
Greatness comes in the everyday moments. It comes in the small acts of kindness
